Ryan Gosling is being mentioned for a leading role in two different American superhero movies.
The Canadian actor met with Marvel Studios to discuss the possibility of starring in their upcoming film, Doctor Strange. Gosling is pleased with the offer, but has made no guarantees. Later, Ryan was informed that his name was also on director David Ayer’s short list for the 2016 Warner Bros. super-villain team-up film, Suicide Squad.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, after Joaquin Phoenix’s name was pulled from Strange, “Jared Leto and Justin Theroux have been chasing the role, while Ethan Hawke’s name also has surfaced, as has Keanu Reeves.” The group of stars would give the 33-year-old actor some competition for the Marvel superhero role, but our gut say go with Gosling. After all, People did name him America’s Most Wanted Man.
If Ryan decides not to go with Doctor Strange, he also has an offer for a role in The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero–and of course, Suicide Squad. According to Comic Book Resources Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Tom Hardy are being courted along with Gosling.
In the past, Gosling normally would distance himself from a “tentpole movie” that might require him to play in a sequel, but the 33-year-old actor has worked with Warner Bros. before in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad. Gosling has even tossed around the idea of directing.
Ryan’s next movie is director Shane Black’s 1970’s noir, The Nice Guys, co-starring Russell Crowe. Both took pay cuts from their usual fees to work on the film.
