Tosh.0 Assistant Mistakenly Killed by LA Sheriff

John Winkler Mistakenly Killed

This past Monday evening (April 7), Los Angeles Police  shot and killed Tosh.0 production assistant, John Winkler after mistaking him for a stabbing suspect.

The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday afternoon that Mr Winkler had gone to a neighbor’s apartment in West Hollywood on Monday night to try and help three people who were being held captive at knife point. When police arrived Winkler was shot after he ran from the apartment with one of the victims. He was shot one and died later that night in hospital.

The Sheriff Department’s released this Statement yesterday:

As deputies continued attempts to contact the people in the apartment, the apartment door suddenly opened and a male victim came rushing out. He was covered in blood and bleeding profusely from the neck. Simultaneously, Victim Winkler ran out of the door, lunging at the back of the fleeing victim. Both ran directly at the deputies. Winkler was similar to the description of the suspect and was wearing a black shirt. Believing Winkler was the assailant and the assault was ongoing and he would attack the entry team; three deputies fired their duty weapons at him.

Winkler, an aspiring TV producer, had just moved to Los Angeles fro Washington 6 months ago to pursue his career. His friend, Devin Richardson told the Los Angeles Times that, “It’s just a really sad story, he basically went to help some neighbors and ends up getting shot.” He had only just recently being been hired for several days as a production assistant for the comedy show Tosh.0.

The real suspect is 27-year old Alexander McDonald who was  arrested and charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of torture. His bail is set at $4 million.
