Nerdist recently debuted Weird Al’s brand spankin’ new music video Tacky, the lead single off of Yankovics’s new album Mandatory Fun. A goofy reimagining of Pharrell William’s infectiously groovy mega hit Happy, the video features cameos from stars Jack Black, Margaret Cho, Aisha Tyler, Kristen Shaal, and Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet. The song serves as a comedic commentary on some of today’s most tacky cultural trends. YOLO license plates, twerking, and Instagramming your meals are just a few of the tacky topics touched upon in the video.
Mandatory Fun drops today (July 15) and includes parodies of other big hits like Lorde’s Royals, Imagine Dragon’s Radio Active, Iggy Azalia’s Fancy, and Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines. This will be Weird Al’s final release in his current contract with RCA because he feels that his style no longer fits the dated album format and hopes to follow Louis C.K’s lead with a future digital release.
