You probably listened to her debut album while riding quietly on the school bus or maybe even learned to pluck out “You Were Meant for Me” on the guitar – allowing the poetry of her words sink into your deepest, most angsty, 90s thoughts. “Jewel gets me,” you said to yourself, strumming the C chord over and over.

The epitome of the mid-90s singer/songwriter craze, and the only folk album you knew more words to than Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill, Pieces Of You and Jewel’s 20-year-old voice offered a uniquely earnest sound.
So whatever happened to our queen of lyrical poetry? Our minimalist, emotionally raw, blonde cherub of the 90s?
